Jobing Description
This position will focus on the design and engineering of custom automated equipment and machinery. The responsibilities include:
* Design/improve equipment which enables the manufacturing of unique composite products.
* Design/improve equipment for internal (Company) application.
* Specify system components or direct modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications.
* Write performance requirements for product development or engineering projects.
* Drive continuous improvements in the areas of safety, quality, delivery and cost.
* Coordinate the manufacturing launch of new/revised products.
* Contribute to make/buy decisions for manufacturing equipment.
This role includes coordination of related activities of both internal and external resources involved in the 1) designing, fabricating, and assembling components for new manufacturing equipment and 2) developing and implementing modifications and upgrades to existing equipment, including make vs. buy decisions. The job requires an individual with an excellent understanding of mechanical design, electro-mechanical systems, and some familiarity with, automation and control systems, ergonomics, and human/machine interfaces.
In this capacity the Mechanical/Machine Design Engineer shall:
* Support the Company s R&D equipment development efforts.
* Support the Company s production equipment.
* Be responsible for the generation of equipment models, working drawings, schematics and documentation.
* Manage vendor contracts and budgets; for equipment development related projects in accordance with purchase orders executed by AEC s procurement team.
* Assist in the integration of safety controls as appropriate in all manufacturing equipment.
* Coordinate both the planning and tactical execution of manufacturing process and equipment development, optimization and modification programs.
* Be accountable for (mechanical-systems) equipment compliance to ANSI B11, OSHA, EPA, NFPA 79, NEC, AEC standards and any new compliance documents that may become applicable in the future.
* Solicit and assist procurement in the evaluation of bids and proposals as they relate to vendor selection and project management of equipment development related goods, subcontractors, and services.
* Manage/support equipment development related capital projects as assigned.
* Support production with troubleshooting and repairs in the area of expertise.

Required Skills
* Proficient in the use of Microsoft software (MSWord, PowerPoint, Excel, Project) to enable the creation of work instruction and other maintenance documentation.
* Proficient in the use of SolidWorks
* Fundamental knowledge of AutoCAD
* Ability to create, understand and interpret engineering drawings
* Flexible and adaptable.
* Able to set and balance priorities.
* Able to work on multiple projects in parallel.
* Well organized and disciplined.
* Able to identify problems and willing to make decisions.
Required Experience
* 5 to 7 years of relevant experience in design engineering and mechanical equipment design.
* Extensive knowledge of mechanical, pneumatic and electric-mechanical systems.
* Familiar with automation / control systems and human/machine interfaces.
* Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
* Basic knowledge of all relevant guidance documentation; ANSI, ASTM, NEC, NFPA, OSHA, etc.
* 4-year degree in a relevant discipline preferred. Relevant experience may be substituted for education.
