Jobing Description
The Director of Leadership Giving is responsible for providing effective management of and inspiration to the departments of Leadership Giving and Family Giving. The Leadership Giving staff is responsible for raising current-use and capital commitments of between $250,000 and $5,000,000 both in campaign and non-campaign environments from a diverse constituency. The Family Giving staff is responsible for raising annual gifts through the Parents & Grandparents Fund, and capital commitments of between $250,000 and $5,000,000 from family donors. Manages a select portfolio of prospects.
Skills & Knowledge: Ability to motivate and inspire strong individual contributors while simultaneously creating an esprit de corps among all staff.
Excellent written and verbal communication and negotiation skills with demonstrated fund raising experience.
Knowledge of gift-planning vehicles and techniques.
Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to work across a complex organization, and to tolerate and address ambiguity appropriately.
Ability to work both independently and as part of multiple teams, and to encourage and support both individuals and groups of people.
Keen judgment to know when to act decisively and when to seek consensus, and then to have the ability to respond accordingly.
Demonstrated commitment to working with and motivating a diverse range of people.
Strong team builder with sense of humor that includes ability to laugh at self.
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion, and to deal with internal conflict in ways that lead to enhanced teamwork.
Demonstrated integrity.
Minimum Experience: 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in a complex college or university development operation with a proven record of successful fund raising and effective supervisory responsibilities.
Deep understanding of and appreciation for the philanthropic process and individual giving behaviors combined with direct solicitation experience.
Demonstrated experience soliciting and closing seven-figure gifts.
Demonstrated experience working with senior administrators, trustees and top volunteers.
Stellar team-building skills evidenced through professional references from peers, subordinates and supervisors
.Comprehensive campaign experience desired.
Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree with preference for advanced degree or experience that enhances management skills.
