The Executive Director of Innovation and Technology Transfer will work alongside the Associate Provost of Innovation and Technology Transfer to focus on innovation and technology transfer in both the life and physical sciences. The position is aimed at unifying, bolstering and coordinating more effectively the activities of the Dartmouth Entrepreneurial Network (DEN) and the Technology Transfer Office (TTO); and of strengthening the partnerships with the Office of Intellectual Property Management (OIPM), DHMC and Dartmouth Regional Technology Center (DRTC).
Skills & Knowledge: Expert knowledge of the intersection of life sciences, engineering and applied sciences within industry.
Extensive experience working and communicating with faculty, and to adequately exploit the capabilities of the school externally.
Intellectual curiosity, mental acuity, a strategic mindset and a great capacity and interest in learning is required to be able to deal with diverse technologies that industry will pay to access.
Commitment to diversity and to collaboration within a diverse community.
Minimum Experience: Ten years of experience building and/or managing a technology transfer unit within a major academic research institution or in a corporate environment doing technology licensing, research and development, business development or general management.
A demonstrable track record of working with various groups to support innovation in either corporate or academic contexts.
Well-developed personal networks in industrial biotechnology, engineering, medical devices and/or other relevant fields would be regarded as extremely desirable.
Mastery of screening and assessment processes that lead to objective data to support decisions on IP progression.
Mastery of patent application procedures, tactics and strategies are highly desired.
Minimum Education: Master's degree required.
M.B.A. preferred.
Terminal degree including but not limited to a Ph.D. or M.D., strongly preferred.
