Group Benefits is looking for a Payment Specialist to join our Payment Services team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing the calculation and issuance of payments for an assigned caseload of long-term disability claims. Since this is a fast-paced job where attention to detail counts, and your decisions have a direct impact on peoples' professional and personal lives, you must demonstrate the ability to produce quality work within tight timeframes.

Responsibilities:

* Calculate and issue long-term disability payments, using knowledge of policy/contract provisions, calculation modes, benefit offset options, and work earnings
* Communicate with claimants, vendors and/or customer payroll contacts as necessary to collect financial data and other information pertinent to benefit calculation and payment
* Establish payments in system, document claim accurately and comprehensively, and update/maintain payment tracking system with key dates and outcomes
* Establish follow-up tasks for Disability Claims Case Managers for claims requiring ongoing payment adjustments or oversight
* Identify and act upon claims with potential for benefit offset based on other income sources
* Adhere to financial controls under Sarbanes-Oxley, corporate compliance and GAAP

Qualifications:

* Associate's degree or equivalent experience, plus at least three years of progressively responsible experience in a financial services-oriented environment, such as payroll services; Bachelor's degree preferred
* Knowledge of or experience with benefits administration or disability claims case handling preferred
* Ability to understand financial aspects of contract language and federal regulations
* Strong math/financial skills to verify system-generated benefit calculations and make manual calculations
* Demonstrated ability to gather/analyze information to make decisions from multiple sources, including: claim case managers, claimants, vendors and customer contacts
* Excellent telephonic communication and customer service skills to solicit information and convey decisions to a variety of audiences clearly, succinctly and diplomatically
* Strong written communication skills to accurately and clearly capture payment status, actions taken, and decisions made
* Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple priorities and tasks for a large caseload
* Ability to work independently and as a member of the team to achieve individual and unit objectives
* Ability to think creatively to support business process improvements
* Strong computer skills in data entry; basic MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook required
