Roles and Responsibilities: Plum Creek is the United States' largest private land owner with approximately 7 million acres in 19 states. We have an opening for a Resource Forester in our Colebrook, New Hampshire office to manage our northern hardwood forests for sustainability and long term value. The land is located in northeastern Vermont near Island Pond (Brighton) and in Northern New Hampshire near Errol. As a Resource Forester, you'll be involved in the planning, preparation and contract administration of sales areas for timber harvesting, road maintenance, and silvicultural activities. Additionally, you will be working on land that is under a Conservation Easement and is enrolled in Vermont's Use Value Appraisal Program.

This position is part of Plum Creek's Northern Kingdom Unit and is based in Colebrook, NH with a primary focus on managing the unit's 86,000 acres in Vermont. This entire Unit encompasses approximately 115,000 acres in the northern forest region of Vermont and New Hampshire. This region provides abundant four season outdoor recreational opportunities while maintaining the unique character of working forests and farms. From the famous fall foliage to the surrounding peaks of the White and Green Mountains, you will be working in an area that is known for its beauty. You will work with three other Foresters. You'll be able to build a rewarding and successful career with Plum Creek, while enjoying the local atmosphere that tends to make life in our tight-knit communities so desirable.

This position will require that you spend 80% of your time in the woods doing a variety of tasks including timber harvest supervision, harvest boundary layout, flagging stream buffers and other similar tasks in a variety of weather conditions over difficult terrain. Approximately 20% of your time will be spent in the office documenting forest practices and applications.

To be successful, you must have the interpersonal and communications skills to work well with co-workers, contractors, and other internal and external associates.

As a Resource Forester, you'll have the opportunity to:
- Support and protect compliance with our conservation easement, regulations and environmental and SFI principles.
- Implement silvicultural regimens that maximize the value of current harvest and future value of the residual stands.
- Ensure that all contracts meet or exceed budgeted targets, and meet agreed pulpwood and log delivery schedules and customer commitments.
- Work closely with the Conservation Easement holder's forester and the Vt. State Foresters.
- Work with the team to manage production to fulfill log delivery specifications and schedules; as well as coordinating activities with the land sales group and others.

Additional Requirements: Education:
Bachelor's degree in Forestry is required.

Experience:
Two years of forestry experience is preferred.
Computer proficiency with various Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, Access and PowerPoint is required.
New Hampshire forestry license or willingness to obtain a New Hampshire forestry license is a plus.

Preferred Skills
-Working knowledge in the areas of logging systems and related laws, including environmental and SFI and BMPs.
-Experience working on conservation easement lands or Vermont's Current Use program.
-Working knowledge of GIS systems.
-A basic understanding of forecasting and budgeting.

Salary: $39,200 - $52,000 with up to 14% bonus potential
