Jobing Description
The Senior Buyer/Planner is responsible for all planning and sourcing activities required to assure continuity of supply for their assigned parts. Activities include material planning, cost negotiations and supplier relationship management and all other activities required to assure on-time delivery of good parts.
This position will also support the Commodity Manager and SQE Dept in supplier selection, qualification and development.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
* Manage supply base for assigned commodity group:
* Machining/Castings/Fabricated Parts
* Optical products and related value added services
* Printed Circuit Board Assemblies
* Assess, plan and negotiate schedules for assigned parts in support of MRP requirements and without sacrifice to inventory turns.
* Negotiate costs, terms and overall supply relationship with key suppliers.
* Develop suppliers capabilities to improve quality, delivery and cost structure.
* Work cross-functionally with Commodity Mgr, SQE Dept and Engineering in resolving supplier quality issues, identifying sources for new products and improving overall supply performance.
* Implement Supplier Managed Inventory programs and other functional and company-wide process improvements.
* Represent commodity group, as required, on new product and program teams.
* Lead Quarterly Business Reviews for Primary suppliers.
* Support supplier quality initiatives including completion of supplier score cards, quality plan requirements etc.
* Provide cost/benefit analysis for make vs. buy proposals.
* Assure compliance with all ISO, ITAR and SOX Requirements
Education:
Minimum of a Bachelors Degree Preferred or a combination of equivalent education and work experience.
Experience:
* Minimum 4-5 years of job related experience.
* Strong understanding of Purchasing and Supply Chain concepts.
* Technical understanding of responsible commodities.
* Ability to read and understand part drawings.
* Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
* Ability to align requirements to supply base.
