Mission/Summary

The mission of the Innovation and Design (I&D) organization is to bring forth new packaging solutions through creative structural design, working collaboratively with our internal graphic designers, machinery and systems engineers, business development team members, market and product managers, manufacturing and quality assurance personnel, key supplier partners and ultimately interfacing with customers to understand their unmet needs, consumer unmet needs, and marketing objectives.

The I&D Department is responsible for developing paperboard carton structure designs, translating final paperboard carton structure designs into production-ready cutting tooling, and producing small-quantity, production-quality machine trial carton samples. Proficient utilization of ArtiosCAD and SAP software applications is required throughout the various roles and functions within the I&D Department.

Description

We have an outstanding opportunity for an experienced, dynamic, and hands-on technical professional. The ideal candidate will possess solid experience working with, developing, and building a team of technically-focused resources. This position requires Tactical Design (carton structure design and production-ready one-up drawing development), Manufacturing Design (layout, programming, and tooling ordering), and Machine Trial Order (MTO) process understanding, as well as, demonstrated experience with employee development, coaching, and mentoring activities. Additional responsibilities include motivating and inspiring this team of technical resources so that they are effectively meeting all of our internal and external customer needs, expectations, and requirements. This department-wide Technical Analyst will be confronted with a number of complex processes, technical challenges, and issues requiring immediate attention, intervention, collaboration, and support to reach resolution.

Job Functions

Internal focus

* Effectively interface and interact with internal customers, stakeholders, peers, and co-workers to resolve issues in a timely fashion
* Provide direct over-sight and control of MTO scheduling, strategic outsourcing, and raw materials procurement activities
* Identify, develop, and lead department-wide continuous improvement initiatives utilizing both LEAN and Six-Sigma tools, techniques, and methodologies
* Charter, monitor, manage, and complete department-wide continuous improvement projects of varying focus, scope, complexity, and duration
* Serve as back-up Supervisor for a diverse group of local and remote technical resources
* Actively participate in, and contribute to, local Culture Development ideas, initiatives, and activities
* Develop, maintain, and improve technical training initiatives and programs related to all I&D roles and functions (Tactical Design, Manufacturing Design, and MTO)
* Assist with development, fine-tuning, coordination, and execution of department-wide employee Certification and Re-Certification activities
* Others, as assigned or required

External focus

* Actively participate in the development and fine-tuning of Tactical Design, Manufacturing Design, and MTO processes to drive improvement in GPI s Voice-of-Customer survey Net Promoter Score (NPS)
* Others, as assigned or required

Requirements

* College degree, or equivalent professional experience, is required (4-year degree is preferred)
* Any level of LEAN / Six Sigma education and experience is required
* A high-level of mechanical knowledge and aptitude for carton structure design, die cutting, tooling design, and graphics layout is required
* Dynamic, flexible, and personable team player with the ability to facilitate team activities to achieve desired results is required
* Effective time management and project management skills are required
* Ability to effectively communicate at all levels within the organization is required
* Technical and analytical skills are required
* Detail orientation is required
* Proficiency with computer systems is required MS-Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
* Experience with ArtiosCAD and SAP is required
* At least two (2) years of back-up supervisory experience is preferred
