Job Description
CDM Smith is looking to hire a full time Senior Geotechnical Engineer with expertise in deep foundations, dams and levees, underground construction and large civil engineering projects. As a member of our Infrastructure and Programs Group as part of our Geotechnical Structural unit you would contribute to CDM Smith's mission by:

- Serving as a senior geotechnical engineering lead and/or task manager on projects involving deep foundations, dams and levees, underground construction, and complex subsurface investigations on water, transportation, energy and infrastructure projects.
- Overseeing geotechnical staff involved in planning and executing subsurface investigations including field and laboratory services for a wide range of project types.
- Performing geotechnical engineering and soil-structure analyses and analyses for earthwork, dewatering, excavation support systems, shallow and deep foundations, pipelines, dams/reservoirs/levees, solid waste, tunneling/micro-tunneling/pipe jacking, and transportation projects.
- Preparing and reviewing engineering reports including Geotechnical Data and Geotechnical Baseline Reports and preparing plans and specifications for foundations and underground works.
- Overseeing staff involved with providing engineering services during construction on projects involving deep foundations, support of excavations, pipelines, and tunnels.
- Preparing scopes, schedules and budgets for proposals including projects using alternative delivery methods, including design-bid-build, design-build, progressive design build and PPP.
- Managing projects, subcontractors, and geotechnical and structural staff on multi-disciplined projects and working within multi-disciplined team environment.
- Demonstrating good communications skills and ability to work with clients in the public, private sectors and on federal projects.
- Actively participating or assisting in new business development by contributing to strategic planning, marketing.
- Acting as a mentor for lower level employees. Coordinating and reviewing the work of a staff of engineers (typically 10 to 20).

Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in geotechnical, civil, mining or geologic engineering. Professional engineering (PE) license.
- Experience: 12 years of related experience.
- Travel: Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.

Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Civil Engineering with Geotechnical Engineering emphasis preferred
- Experience in all types of subsurface explorations, laboratory testing, foundation engineering, analysis, engineering report writing, preparation of contract documents.
- Design experience with deep foundation systems, sheeting and shoring design, geotechnical construction monitoring, and risk management is a plus.
- Experience in dams and levees, tunneling and underground construction, seismic design, or geo-environmental projects is a plus.
- Experience with computer applications for geotechnical engineering applications including soils-structure interaction (i.e., Flac 3D and Plaxis 3D) a plus.
- Experience with project management and business development is a plus.
